Learning Innovation

BuffSci is redesigning education to meet the unique needs of its scholars. We continue to focus on meeting on demands for 21st Century, we now will be working to overcome the challenges due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

BuffSci Reopening Plan

BuffSci has a well-earned reputation of high academic standards in both teaching and learning. Our vision is to maintain our high standards by redesigning our school instruction, schedules, learning activities, and assessments with an eye on health and community safety. We see the current challenges as an opportunity to work even better and smarter than before — all while continuing to accelerate academic proficiency.

All Students: Online—this includes synchronous (real-time; i.e. zoom meetings) and asynchronous (not real-time; i.e. independent self paced) instruction.

BuffSci's Innovative Approach

Our ultimate goal is for our students to reach their highest potential — intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically in a safe learning environment.

Online Learning

All students attend synchronous/asynchronous online daily courses scheduled four days a week.

Asynchronous Work

Students will be assigned learning tasks to complete at their own pace.

In-person Learning Opportunity

In addition to on-line learning, students will receive in-person and remote, small group reinforced lessons.

Socio-Emotional Support

Our school social workers and guidance counselors will provide in-person and remote socio-emotional support.

ENL and SPED Programs

We will continue to provide essential services to our SPED and ENL/ELL populations both remotely and in-person

DEAR time

Drop Electronics And Read. All BuffSci students will have a non electronic reading time. Books and other reading materials will be provided for our children.

Now Accepting Applications

All children eligible for enrollment in New York State public schools are eligible to enroll in charter schools. BuffSci admits each eligible student who submits a timely application for the enrollment lottery, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of the student’s requested grade level or the school building.

Ongoing Communnications

BuffSci will continue update and seek for feedback from parents. Parents will be receiving SMS text messages and automated voice calls as well as email and ClassDojo messages (our on-line school community communication). We will have Town Hall meetings every Wed at 3:30 which will be broadcast on Facebook and our school’s website. BuffSci will send SMS and automated calls from its new number at 716-551 0918. Please add this number to your contacts and accept calls and messages from this number to be updated about our reopening.

Food Service

BuffSci will continue to provide breakfast and lunch with students. All students are eligible and may come to school to pick up their breakfast and lunch.

Results of a BuffSci Parent survey showed that more than 70% of our parents are strongly opposed to putting their child in a yellow school bus. Since our main instruction will be on-line, and most of our parents have concerns with yellow school buses, we believe it would be safest to use other means of transportation. Transportation for students with IEP will continue as uninterrupted. Please contact your teacher and principal for details.

Students in Need of Supervision

BuffSci has limited study hall capacity for working parents if they decide to send their child to school during the day. Students will be placed in supervised and socially distanced study hall rooms and they are expected to join on-line classes, complete their synchronous and asynchronous work. Please contact your principal to arrange this service.
