Algebra 1 is an introduction to variables, expressions, functions, equations, inequalities, and the multiple way to represent them. Students develop the skills necessary to solve a variety of real-word problem solving situations, communicate mathematical concepts, and demonstrate the appropriate use of the graphing calculator. This course lays the foundation for literacy in mathematics that will in turn help students be successful in future mathematics courses. Algebra 1 is a graduation requirement and covers the entire NYS Algebra 1 Common Core curriculum, which then is culminated in June on the Algebra 1 Common Core Regents Exam.

Global 1 will be covering the foundations of civilization. We will discover how early humans learned how to farm and from there build civilizations and eventual empires. In addition to that, we will also be covering 9 enduring issues that repeat over various topics in Global history. As we explore the Golden ages and transformation of the world we will be able to recognize as it slowly becomes more like the world we live in. Developing historical thinking and analysis skills that will help you prepare for the Global II Regents exam at the end of 10th grade is also something that you'll be able to learn in this class.

"Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things."
We will work slowly and repetitively in basic foreign language classes so everyone has the ability to learn. Those who excel, will be challenged in other ways provided by the teacher, but for most beginning students, they find it enjoyable to 'conquer' basic expressions at a comfortable rate. We will learn by a model called 'Comprehensive Input' which means we learn the important basics and drill them in different ways - through short movies, music, short writings and readings and through stories. Culture and language go hand in hand and it's my personal belief you can't learn one without the other. Furthermore, if you complete all 3 levels of Turkish then you may take the local exam to receive credit towards an Advanced Regents diploma! I am so excited to get to know you!
